What is a trigger, what is it for, their classification and operating principle

A trigger is an element of digital technology, a bistable device that switches to one of the states and can remain in it indefinitely even when external signals are removed. It is built from logical elements of the first level (AND-NOT, OR-NOT, etc.) and belongs to the logical devices of the second level.

In practice, flip-flops are produced in the form of microcircuits in a separate package or are included as elements in large integrated circuits (LSI) or programmable logic arrays (PLA).

The general essence of the concept of Trigger

The word “trigger” translated from English means “ trigger ”, “launch”. The literal translation reflects the essence of this concept:

an element that powers a system.

An analogy with a weapon will help to visualize the meaning of this mysterious term. When the trigger is triggered, the sound of a shot is heard (an active action occurs, the situation changes). A trigger is a pressed hook, in other words, a stimulating kick, Gagarin’s “Let’s go!”

It sounds vague because the term has multiple meanings. This is just the essence, and kicks, events and situations are different. This means that the term can have different meanings. Now let's move on to specifics, and everything will become clear.

What is a trigger in psychology

Psychologists, speaking about a trigger, draw an analogy (what is this?) with a toggle switch, which temporarily “switches” a person’s thoughts and forces him to perform unconscious actions. “Switches” can be any signals entering the brain (auditory, tactile, visual, olfactory, gustatory).

Psychological triggers are a factor that is not traumatic in itself, but can cause strong re-experiencing of a past experience (or its individual elements).

How it works

A person has a developed sensory memory (even someone who was never able to learn “Lukomorye has green oak” at school), and this sometimes makes life very difficult.

Under the influence of irritants (smells, melodies, photographs, stills from films, snatches of phrases), strong memories awaken. Everything is long in the past, but the brain helpfully draws a parallel with the present. “The legends of deep antiquity” suddenly evoke real emotions, and often actions.

Psychological triggers vary in their impact. Some cause an uncontrollable storm of emotions and actions, while others are easily overcome.

Here is a visual picture:

  1. A girl who has undergone treatment for anorexia, when she sees a photograph of a very thin man, begins to starve herself again.
  2. An elderly person, noticing a queue in a store, without hesitation stands in it: they are offering something worthwhile (“they threw away” a scarce product), you have to take it!
  3. A woman experiences panic attacks every time she inhales the scent of blooming lilacs: she felt it when she was attacked by a rapist in the park.
  4. A procrastinator logs into a social network and “turns it off” for an indefinite period of time. No one knows when he will return to work.

A trigger can cause an emotional reaction before a person even understands why they suddenly feel scared or sad.

Breaking free from influence: how to overcome psychological triggers

There is no need to be afraid of triggers, you need to learn to control them, and then the influence of the “triggers” will disappear.

First, it is important to understand: what exactly triggers the mechanism that turns on the “autopilot”? The answer to this question will help you see the situation somewhat detached when faced with a trigger, and this will make it easier to control it. If you recognize the onset of an undesirable reaction in time, it will be easier to extinguish the emotional outburst and prevent unconscious actions. Follow your feelings !

To suppress the unwanted impulse from the appearance of a trigger, it is worth looking for alternative methods of behavior. The smell of lilac and a rush of panic? We mentally read “Lukomorye has a green oak tree”! A little exaggerated (what is this?), but the essence is clear.

Please edit the article so that this is clear both from its first sentences and from the subsequent text.

Instead, it resolves immediately after the mana ability that triggered it, without waiting for the player to receive priority.

Meanings of the word trigger. What is trigger?

Despite the fact that the body has the ability to heal itself, trigger points do not often go away on their own, but simply go into a latent form, that is, they stop emitting pain, but continue to exist.

The fact is that by nature, most people feel the need to repay if someone has done something useful for them. They may even experience a feeling of guilt and a strong desire to make amends for it. That's why marketers and professional copywriters often use this trick.

There are many different triggers. In this article, we will look at the 10 main ones that will help strengthen your content and increase sales.

The ability then triggers again if the object with the ability is still in the same zone and the game state still meets the trigger condition.

On the recommendation of the Advisory Committee, the issue of introducing a trigger protective measure is submitted to the Commission for consideration in the prescribed manner.

The triggered abilities are then put on the stack (See rule 603, “Managing Triggered Abilities”). These steps are repeated in the order listed until no additional DPS appear and all triggered abilities have gone off. Then the player who should have received priority gets it.

You can treat your muscles with sports freezing frost spray; it will relieve pain, tension and prevent bruising.

You need to give the client something for free: a product, service, gift, consultation or access to a closed club. In the picture below they offer to subscribe to the newsletter or like it, and in return receive a gift.

This could be a sprain or tear of a muscle or tendon, a crushed muscle, a fracture, a bruise, and so on.

For the vast majority of people in Western culture, it is easy to find several trigger points on the body - painful places in a muscle or its attachment points. Very useful information, especially for beginner athletes.

My trainer immediately recommended that I drink magnesium so that my muscles wouldn’t hurt out of habit. I drink Magnesium Liquid from the SportExpert line.

First of all, I practically don’t feel tired, the pain doesn’t hurt, the drug is made from foreign components, and the quality is evidenced by GMP certification.

This is where trigger points in the muscles or their attachment points enter the arena. Sufficiently prolonged tension in the muscle activates trigger point pain; the pain causes a protective reflex, which manifests itself in muscle tension.

The meaning of the word "trigger"

Since a trigger is an individual reaction in psychology, many examples can be given. For some they will become understandable and familiar, others will not understand how the described phenomenon can cause a strong emotional reaction.

His controller's life is checked at the beginning of his upkeep. If the player has 39 or less life, the ability does not trigger at all.

If the player has 40 or more life, the ability triggers and goes on the stack. As the ability resolves, the player's life is checked again.

If the player has 39 or fewer life at this time, the ability is removed from the stack and has no effect.

The new qualitative state caused by T. m. can either be maintained or gradually lost, which leads to a return to the original one. Most biological metabolites are self-regenerating, restored due to metabolic energy.

The inputs to which control pulses are supplied are called setting inputs and are designated R and S, the trigger outputs are designated Q and –Q.

First of all, it is experience that makes us show emotions, and it also helps us avoid unpleasant consequences.

Tell a story that creates a strong emotional connection between you and your readers. When reading stories, people's subconscious is activated. If you manage to evoke people’s emotions with your story, then with a high degree of probability they will become your clients.

There is a “trigger” on the emotional state. The color of the subsequent emotion can be different: positive, neutral, negative. Typically, a trigger in psychology is considered as the starting point of negative emotions: apathy, anger, rage, melancholy, irritation.

The inspection is carried out on the basis of an application from manufacturers constituting a sector of the economy of the Member States, or a public authority of a Member State authorized to interact with the Commission (hereinafter referred to as the authorized body of the Member State), about the application of a bilateral protective measure in relation to the import of goods originating from Vietnam (hereinafter referred to as the appeal).

The responsible department, in accordance with the established procedure, ensures the preparation of materials submitted for consideration of the issue of introducing a trigger protective measure at a meeting of the Advisory Committee.

Trigger points in muscles can exist for a long time, that is, many months and even decades.

In this case, pulses are applied to the general input of the trigger, and each pulse leads to a change in the stable state of the trigger.

Trigger is a marketer's weapon

This term is very loved by marketers because it serves them without fail, bringing profit. Having studied what it is in terms of psychology, sales specialists build entire marketing strategies based on creating mechanisms that trigger the desire to buy.

Really good marketing triggers are:

  1. A temporary constraint that hints at scarcity. “Prices are valid until the end of the month,” or something like that. If we are talking about an online store, the picture is often complemented by a countdown timer. And now it clicks in my brain: buy it urgently, otherwise I’ll miss the chance!
  2. Thirst for free acquisitions. “2 products for the price of 1”, “Buy and get this very valuable thing as a gift”, “Every third bun is 50% off” - sound familiar? The bonus system is a chord from the same song.
  3. Bestseller. “If everyone buys it, I’ll buy it too. After all, I’m no worse than others!” Crowd trigger in action.
  4. Common habits and attitudes. The phrases “GOST”, “taste of childhood”, “German quality” are often decisive when choosing.
  5. Fear is a trigger that always hits the target. Everyone is afraid of something: extra pounds, loneliness, old age, illness, mice, poverty...
  6. The desire to have something exclusive. Buy an author's course, a unique blouse, a handmade bag - few people can resist such an offer!

A video filled with marketing triggers from start to finish:

It is difficult to resist such tricks, but it is possible. The recommendations from the previous section are also relevant here. Know the “enemy in person”, listen to your feelings in order to prevent spontaneous actions.

Do you have an irresistible desire to buy 7 packages of cereal for the price of 6? We exhale and act according to a proven scheme: Pushkin, “Lukomorye”. Helps!

Temporary appointment

Offering a discount, gift, bonus before the end of the specified period. For example, many companies post a time counter on their website that shows how many hours and minutes are left until the end of the promotion.

There is another way to use this technique. When the user is a regular customer who regularly pays for the services provided once a month (week), it is possible to create a guarantee for his long-term subscription by offering the client a discount if he pays for six months (a year) at once. This principle underlies the work of most training centers (there is a system of discounts and subscriptions for prepayment).

Triggers in circuit design

The moment has come for the transition from poetry to physics (it won’t do without computer science either): the concept of “trigger” is actively used in computer technology and electronics.

This is the name for pulsed electronic devices (transistors, thyristors, comparators) capable of remaining for a long time in one of two stable states , alternating under the influence of external signals. In essence, it is an externally controlled (by small electrical signals) valve with two positions - open or closed (zero or one).

In addition, these devices have the ability to store binary information. They are used in various elements of computing systems: processors, registers, random access storage devices. There are billions of these “triggers” alone.

Typically, flip-flops are used to generate an output signal, which is perceived as enabling or informing other nodes of a digital circuit (“the process is in progress!”). “Process flag” is how these devices are often called. The number of trigger inputs depends on its functional purpose, and there are usually two outputs: direct and inverse.

According to the method of recording information, there are asynchronous and synchronized (or clocked) triggers. In asynchronous recording is continuous; it is determined by information signals acting at a particular moment at the inputs. If this happens only during the action of the synchronizing signal, then we are talking about a clocked trigger.

Among such devices, the Schmidt trigger especially stands out. This is the name of a two-position switching element (it has one analog input and one two-level output) with a hysteresis loop (translated from Greek as “delay”, “lag”: the system reacts to the influence depending on its current state).

Schmidt triggers are actively used in electronic devices to reduce interference in circuits, especially in circuits whose purpose is the interaction between digital and analog sections: the digital signal here can be distorted.

Types of triggers and how they work

There are several main types of triggers. Before understanding the differences, a common property should be noted: when power is applied, the output of any device is set to an arbitrary state. If this is critical to the overall operation of the circuit, preset circuits must be provided. In the simplest case, this is an RC chain that generates a signal to set the initial state.

RS triggers

The most common type of asynchronous bistable device is an RS flip-flop. It refers to flip-flops with separate state settings of 0 and 1. There are two inputs for this:

  • S - set (installation);
  • R - reset.

What is a trigger in medicine

The term we are interested in is often heard in medical circles (and not only among psychologists and psychiatrists). Doctors call triggers a provoking factor , under the influence of which changes begin in the body (usually unfavorable).

The medical concept of “trigger” is strongly associated with asthma, migraine, epilepsy - chronic diseases that periodically worsen under the influence of weather conditions, environmental factors, and food (they act as a “trigger” ).

In hypnosis, the word “trigger” refers to a kind of “key” that is established during a session. It is used to instantly put the patient into hypnotic sleep.

Another medical concept on the topic that interests us is “ovulation trigger.” This is the name for specialized medications that stimulate the ovulation process in women with reproductive system problems. Most often, this “trigger” is human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).

trigger points is also used in medicine . These are special areas on the body that are hypersensitive to external influences due to local muscle spasm. Most often they are located in muscle tissue.

To the touch, these places look like small hard lumps. When you press them, pain sharply “shoots out”, hence the name. To get rid of such pain areas, you need to consult a neurologist: Pushkin will not help here.

Triggers as asthma triggers

For a significant number of people, allergies are the most important trigger for symptoms of asthma attacks. The main allergen in most countries is the substance of the house dust mite (it lives on the scales of human dead skin and is visually invisible). Also important allergic triggers are: feathers, animal hair (cats, horses, dogs), fungal spores, pollen from trees and grasses. Thus, we can say that triggers are allergic pathogens in medicine that can lead to asthma. However, they are not always interpreted as an allergic reaction.

What does this mean for gamers?

If you hear the word “trigger” in a conversation between two teenagers, it does not mean that they are discussing the principle of the Schmidt valve or an effective marketing strategy. Most likely, we are talking about a computer game, and these teenagers are gamers.

With this term they call various mechanisms or objects, the action of which in one way or another affects the development of the game plot (an explosion is heard, an enemy attack begins, etc.).

There are triggers that move selected objects in any direction, changing their color and transparency (this also works in relation to the environment). With the help of proper use of the “trigger” mechanism in the game, you can destroy an object and restore it.

Here are a couple more concepts from the world of computer games on the topic:

  1. Trigger zone - a section of the game space that tracks the presence or absence of any object;
  2. Trigger point is a “trigger mechanism” by which the player checks the distance from himself to the object of interest.

The world of computer games is full of diverse “triggers”; new ones appear periodically. There is even a virtual switch that can override other switches. Oh, how! And you thought that games were just...

Other examples

Automatic door

In this example, the func_door block object is controlled by trigger_multiple. Each time the player touches the trigger, the door will open. When the player leaves the trigger area, the outgoing OnEndTouch signal is turned on and the door closes.

Ending the game

This is an easy way to properly complete the game on the map. When you "defeat the boss" (kill the headcrab), its death triggers the logic_relay, an object capable of controlling multiple outgoing signals. This in turn triggers an outgoing signal to the env_fade object, darkening the screen. Game_text is also fired, displaying a victory message. Finally, after a delay, the point_clientcommand object fires. This object activates console commands, in our case the disconnect command, which sends the player to the main menu.

Triggered

In general, the word “trigger” gained particular popularity after the spread of English-language memes on the Internet called Triggered (meaning “to be on edge, irritated, caught up in something.” In the context of this topic, a trigger is a certain factor that causes unpleasant emotions (they also say – “triggered”).

The meme here is usually a four-panel image. The first contains a word, the second depicts a character who finds something in the inscription that makes him furious (reflected in pictures No. 3 and 4).

At first it was a joke among bloggers aimed at people prone to anorexia and bulimia (what is that?). When feminists (who are they?) became the heroes of such pictures, Triggered acquired a “face”: Chanti Binks, a red-haired girl with glasses. This meme is most often associated with her.

Why are these simple pictures so popular? The reason is simple: they are very vital. Everyone has something that can “trigger”. Instead of negative experiences on this basis, it is better to create another witty joke - and life will become easier!

This is what it is, a multifaceted trigger. Anyone who understands the essence of its meaning is not afraid to find himself in any motley company, be it physicists, doctors, psychologists or unpredictable teenagers. No need to trigger!

In the beginning there was Beat

A couple of months ago we started learning digital circuitry from the NOT basic block. Let's not change traditions this time either, especially since the block is actually not as simple as it seems at first glance. Let's take a couple and connect them in series.

Some might say that this is a completely meaningless circuit, because the output signal is always equal to the input. Indeed, by applying logical negation twice, we obtain the original statement. If you are not a “white” hacker, you are a “black” hacker. Not “not white” – still “white”. This looks like a useless verbal balancing act, but everything changes if in the diagram above you try to close the input to the output.

Now, if we have a high logic level in the right half, the left half will always be low (and vice versa). In other words, the circuit acquires the property of bistability and takes only one of two possible states. Just like a bit of memory - or a bool variable in C/C++.

For clarity, you can assemble the circuit on a breadboard. Any inverter will do here - for example, 74HC04B. These are six NOT logic gates in a DIP-14 package (three whole bits of information, Karl!). However, as you already understand, the same function can be implemented in several ways, so here our choice is almost unlimited.

It’s worth mentioning here that we can use the 74HC00N (four NAND elements) for the same purposes. This microcircuit received its special “zero” number in the 74xx series for a reason - the logical OR-NOT operation has the remarkable property of functional completeness. In other words, we can decompose any other basic block (AND, OR and others) into a combination of NAND blocks. The analogue in domestic microelectronics is 155LA3, and it is such a popular chip among radio amateurs that they even name websites after it.

A simple example (as in the picture above) allows us to verify in practice that the microcircuit works as we expected. To blink the LEDs and switch states in such a memory cell, it is enough to touch the ends of the wires (from ground or power) to the corresponding pins of the microcircuit. This may not sound very exciting in itself, but some thought along the way should lead to some interesting ideas.

Some uncertainty

At some point, your inquisitive hacker mind probably wondered - what if you apply the same voltage to both halves at the same time? And what state will our circuit be in after? In essence, this is akin to division by zero in mathematics (or programming) - a forbidden operation whose output is undefined. It’s paradoxical, but even this property can have practical applications! Engineers at Intel know circuit design well (who would doubt it) and the random number generator built into their processors works precisely on this principle.

Now the process of operation of our circuit is reminiscent of electromechanical computers of the mid-40s of the 20th century, when signals were switched inside the device using relays and switches. Now is the time to add new capabilities and move from inverters to multi-input elements.
