Concept
A need is a need realized by a person, a need for something. This is the simplest and most accurate definition. If you compare it with the one given in manuals and textbooks, you will be pleasantly surprised by the brevity and accuracy of our formulation.
What does conscious need mean? In psychology and physiology, it is believed that the body is controlled by the brain. For example, there is no energy in the body, the brain records this and creates a feeling of hunger so that other parts of it realize this and direct your body to a pizzeria or a burger joint, or better, of course, to the refrigerator.
The strongest feelings are caused by hunger, cold, the threat of danger, as well as sexual instinct. More details about need groups will be discussed later. As soon as there is food, a roof over their heads, there is no danger and there is a partner to live together, the majority of people calm down on this: they live calmly according to the home-work scheme, and then they quietly die.
However, there are citizens for whom this is not enough, and several more groups of needs awaken in them. Why do some people have poor needs while others do not? What are the sources of needs? Here they are:
Beliefs, values. This is a pretty strong source of needs. For example, you believe in goodness and try to do good deeds: you wash windows for old people, or help them around the house, or in general you give yourself to society. You will have relevant interests: communicating with your own kind, for example.
Interests. All people have completely different interests, because the structure of the brain is different. Some people have more neurons in areas responsible for motor activity. Such people need to constantly run, jump, and play sports. Other people have more neurons in other areas of the brain, so they may be interested in music, art, or math.
Culture, as a stable, historically established value system, also influences your needs. For example, modern consumer culture encourages everyone to change their phone every year, because every company updates the line of its smartphones, computers, etc. once a year. Don’t believe me? Well then, look how there are always queues for the notorious iPhones - it’s just hell. People stand for three days!
